Series: The Secret #3
on October, 22 2013
Genres: New Adult, Romance
On the surface, Lila Summers is flawless: good looks, expensive clothes, and a big, beautiful smile. But a dark past and even darker secrets are threatening to bubble over her perfect façade. She'll do anything to keep the emptiness inside hidden-which leads her into situations that always end badly. Whenever she hits bottom, there's only one person who's there to pull her out: Ethan Gregory.
Ethan set the rules a long time ago: he and Lila are just friends. He doesn't do relationships. Although his tattooed, bad boy exterior is a far cry from Lila's pretty princess image, Ethan can't deny they have a deeper connection than he's used to. If he's not careful, he could be in serious danger of becoming attached-and he's learned the hard way that attachment only leads to heartbreak.
When Lila falls farther than she ever has before, can Ethan continue to help as a friend? Or is he also getting close to falling . . . for her?
Kristina’s 4 Star Review
I did not want to read this. I repeat: I DID NOT WANT TO READ THIS. I was not interested when I heard it was in the making after I read Sorensen’s “The Secret.” I kept thinking
“Gosh I adore Ella and Micha so much that I dont really care about what happens with their friends. This will be another lame spinoff like other NA novels, and I dont want to invest anything in it.”
Then smarty pants Jessica Sorensen posted a teaser a few hours before “The Temptation” went live, and I was so blown away.
I bite down on the sensitive spot right below her ear, just above her neck, not enough to break the skin, but enough that her shoulder jerks upward, and my hands clamp down on her waist, my fingertips delving into the fabric of her dress.
“Do it again,” she whispers.”please.”
I remember how she told me she never begged, and suddenly all my doubts dissipate….
I thought about that little tempting passage for 6 hours. 6 HOURS PEOPLE! Obviously I caved, and purchased it the second it was live.
I was not expecting the development of these characters. In Sorensen’s other books in the series, the two characters struck me as tag alongs, friends that are just filling space. However I was so wrong in that initial depiction. There is depth, pain, even solace between Lila and Ethan. Their story has obvious lust, but their friendship is what makes each conversation between the two mean multitudes more in the long run. They are broken by past secrets, with families that haven’t helped them heal. Addiction is a running theme within this book, and I was enthralled at how accurate Jessica was in making it believable. The responsibility that the characters take on to heal one another made my heart feel full.
I was also happy the way that it ended. THANK GOD for no life shattering cliff hanger, as seen in other series Jessica writes. This story sits securely nestled within this series, and I’m actually excited about jumping back into Ella, and Micha’s story before getting more of Lila/Ethan. I would not suggest reading this as a standalone. The first two books in the series sheds a lot of information about Lila and Ethan. I really sets up the friendship they have adapted, and to miss that would be a waste.
